Polygamous Man Accused for Adultery Faces Simultaneous Divorce Procedures From 67 Wives

A 79-year-old Muslim man from Abuja is facing one of the most spectacular marital lawsuits in the history of Nigeria after allegedly cheating on his numerous wives. All 67 Mohammed Harun Al-Rahman’s wives have decided to file for divorce simultaneously after catching him in bed with another woman, setting the stage for the biggest case of mass divorce in history.

This unique case is drawing a lot of media attention in Nigeria and across African continent, as journalists from all around the world were present to report on the event. g one after the other that they intended to file for divorce on the basis of “unreasonable bahavior” and “Adultery”.

The women claim that on September 19, 2014, they caught their husband in bed with the wife of a neighbour. They would have then rapidly decided to take action, consulting a lawyer specialized in divorce cases in other to help them prepare for the legal procedures.

The women are all applying for an Islamic divorce procedure known as Khula (Arabic: خلع), which is the right of a woman to seek a divorce from her husband in Islam in exchange for a monetary compensation paid back to the husband by the wife.
