EU to Pay Nigerian Govt to Deport Nigerians from Europe

EU to Pay Nigerian Govt to Deport Nigerians from Europe

The Nigerian government is about to sign a pact with the European Union to receive aid from the union in exchange of the deportation of Nigerian economic migrants.

This is similar to a recent pact EU had with Turkey that is dramatically curbing migration flows from the Middle East.

A “readmission agreement” would involve migrants from Nigeria being deported in exchange for EU economic aid for Nigeria.

It would be the bloc’s first major return deal with a sub-Saharan African nation — its only existing one is with tiny island nation Cape Verde.

The EU and Nigeria agreed to “take the necessary steps to launch negotiations” for a deal after meetings in Brussels last month, and diplomats there have since been working to secure a mandate from member states to start the negotiations, an EU diplomat said.

#OccupyNASS: Protesters Receive About N400, 000 Daily

The OccupyNASS campaign group has denied claims that it is being sponsored to move against the National Assembly, or its embattled chairman, Bukola Saraki.

The group said it benefits instead from a robust support package from unnamed Nigerians, at an average of N400, 000 daily, throughout its campaign.

The group on Thursday said it would bring down its tents and leave the main gate of the National Assembly on Friday morning, three days after starting a sit-in there.

At a hastily-arranged press briefing on Thursday night, the movement listed its achievements, demands and plans for its future.

Bunmi Awoyemi, the convener, said the protest was ending on a good note for all Nigerians.

“This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that Nigerians from all walks of life were able to galvanise each other to come to Abuja to shut down the National Assembly,” Mr. Awoyemi said. “We succeeded in sending a very strong message that Nigerians will no longer be taken for a ride.”

Buhari’s economic policies “opaque, archaic” – Ezekwesili

President Muhammadu Buhari’s current economic policies are similar to those he promulgated during the military regime he led in the 1980s, a former Minister of Education and social critic, Oby Ezekwesili, has said.
Mrs. Ezekwesili said Mr. Buhari’s “archaic” and “opaque” economic principles are not only encouraging massive corruption and abuse of power, but also hurting the poor they were intended to help.
Mrs. Ezekwesili said this at The Platform, a public policy forum that is currently underway in Abuja.
“During the first coming of this our new president, a command and control economic system was adopted.
“During that era, inflation spiralled. During that era, jobs were lost. During that era, the economic growth level dipped,” Mrs. Ezekwesili said. “That era wasn’t the best of eras in economic progress.”
“What did not work in 1984 cannot possibly be a solution in a global economy that’s much more integrated.”
Mrs. Ezekwesili said Mr. Buhari was rehashing the same “command and control” approach towards economic issues which has left the country’s economic indices worse off since he assumed office almost year ago.
“In over one year, the president is still holding to the premise that command and control is the only way out,” Mrs. Ezekwesili said. “In a year we have lost the single digits inflation status we maintained in past administrations.”

Mrs. Ezekwesili said Mr. Buhari’s distortion of foreign exchange system has left the poor it was intended to support even worse off.
“The president comes into this economic philosophy on the premise that he does not want the poor to suffer. I can relate to that, a leader must not allow the poor to suffer, especially a leader who knows that most of his votes came not from the elite but from the poor.”
“The problem though is that the intention and the outcome are diverged.
“The weakest and the most vulnerable suffer the impact of inflation the most. Enormous power is being abused as a result of opaque economic policies.
“Companies are suddenly finding themselves unable to produce because they’re unable to access foreign exchange,” Mrs. Ezekwesili said.
Mrs. Ezekwesili, therefore, urged Mr. Buhari to sit down with his administration officials and reconsider the impact his polices have had on the nation’s economy, quoting an American parlance that says if something is not broken there’s no need fixing it”.
“Mr. President should sit with his team and look at the economic evidence that speaks loudly. It’s time to sit back and review the well-intended idea of command and control economic principle.
“He should do what the Americans say that if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it,” Mrs. Ezekwesili said.

Blac Chyna Tells Rob Kardashian’s Family She Will Not Be Appearing On Their Reality Show

Blac Chyna isn’t prepared to jump on the Kardashian bandwagon, according to US reports. The curvy model and Rob Kardashian got engaged earlier this year, but the star is said to want nothing to do with the world famous brand because it will “royally screw up her brand”.

According to TMZ, the mum-of-one has made it clear to Rob’s family that she won’t sign with Kris and won’t do their reality show.

They add that Blac is more interested in developing her own beauty and fashion business empire and wants to stay well away from TV. Also, anyone who thinks she’s benefited from being associated with the Kardashian brand is wrong.

The website reports that she believes it’s actually Rob who has benefited from her and that he’s made money since they got together.
